ToggleHonda Civic Type R
As a long-time fan of performance cars, it’s bittersweet to share that Honda has officially unveiled the Civic Type R Ultimate Edition—a limited-run, final version of the FL5 Civic Type R. Only 40 units of this special model will be produced, marking the end of an era for the beloved hot hatch in Europe and the UK.
Why the swansong? Well, it’s all due to the upcoming Euro 7 emission norms set to roll out in 2026, which the current Civic Type R won’t comply with. So, Honda decided to give this legend the farewell it deserves.
What’s Special About the Honda Civic Type R Ultimate Edition?
The Ultimate Edition is essentially a celebration of the Civic Type R’s 28-year production journey, and it brings some exciting cosmetic and feature enhancements while retaining its core performance DNA

Standout Exterior Type R Styling
The car is finished exclusively in Championship White, a colour synonymous with Honda’s racing legacy. To set it apart from the standard FL5 Type R, this edition features
- Red decals on the bonnet and doors
- ‘Ultimate Edition’ badges
- Carbonfibre rear wing
- A black-painted roof, wing mirrors, and sporty side skirts
- Signature 19-inch black alloy wheels
- And of course, that aggressive triple-exhaust setup at the rear
- It still carries the signature Type R red Honda badge, mesh grille, smoked LED headlights, and rear LED light bar.
- Premium Cabin Touches
- Step inside, and the Ultimate Edition feels special. You get:
- Carbonfibre trim on the door sills and center console
- Red floor mats with metal Type R insignias
- A cool Type R logo projector on the doors
- Ambient lighting under the seats, cupholders, footwells, and more
To top it off, every buyer receives a special collector’s gift box including a numbered plaque (1–40), a carbon-fibre keychain, and a custom car cover.
Otherwise, the cabin layout remains the same with red suede-effect sport seats, dual-zone climate control, a Type R-branded steering wheel, a 9-inch infotainment touchscreen with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a 10.2-inch digital driver’s display, and an 8-speaker audio system.

Powertrain and Performance Honda Civic Type R is Still the Nurburgring King
While the exterior and interior see some celebratory upgrades, under the hood, it’s the same beast. The 2.0-litre VTEC turbo-petrol engine churns out 329hp and 420Nm, mated to a slick 6-speed manual transmission.
This front-wheel-drive monster rockets from 0-100 km/h in just 5.4 seconds, with a top speed of 275 km/h. And let’s not forget—this is still the fastest front-wheel-drive production car to lap the Nürburgring, clocking in at 7:44.881!

What About India? Is the Honda Civic Type R Coming Here?
I’ve seen a lot of excitement online about the Civic Type R possibly launching in India—especially after the recent arrival of the Volkswagen Golf GTI. But sadly, it’s not happening.
Despite the buzz, Honda has no plans to bring the Type R to India. The launch of the Ultimate Edition actually signals the beginning of the end for this performance icon globally. By 2026, the Civic Type R will likely be phased out entirely.
As of now, Honda India’s lineup consists of the City, Amaze, and Elevate. There’s speculation about the ZR-V hybrid SUV entering the Indian market, but that’s a story for another day.

Final Thoughts on Honda Civic Type R
The Honda Civic Type R Ultimate Edition is more than just a limited-edition car—it’s a tribute to a nameplate that redefined front-wheel-drive performance. With only 40 units made, this is a collector’s dream and a fitting farewell to a true JDM legend
