ToggleMahindra has unveiled the refreshed Mahindra XUV400 EV Pro, aptly named the XUV400 Pro, addressing its predecessor’s tech shortcomings and stepping up its game against rivals like the popular Tata Nexon EV.
Interior Makeover
The cabin receives a significant overhaul, ditching the dated feel for a modern, tech-laden environment. Dual 10.25-inch screens dominate the dashboard, with one serving as the instrument cluster and the other a feature-rich infotainment system. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto come standard, alongside Mahindra’s Adrenox connected car tech. Further enhancing convenience are features like TPMS, three driving modes (Fun, Fast & Furious, and L-mode for single-pedal driving), and rear AC vents across all trims.
The top-end EL Pro trim boasts additional luxuries like a wireless charger with active cooling, FOD and MLOA alerts, a six-speaker sound system, leatherette seats and steering wheel, auto-dimming IRVM, steering-mounted controls with cruise control, a sunroof, and six airbags. The new dual-tone interiors with premium materials exude a sophisticated charm.
Exterior Familiarity
While the exterior remains largely unchanged from the previous model, featuring the familiar silhouette, fog lamps, rain-sensing wipers, rear defogger, reverse camera with guidelines, 16-inch diamond-cut alloy wheels, and electrically adjustable ORVMs, it retains its bold and sporty appeal. Satin copper accents on both the exterior and interior add a touch of elegance.
Powertrain Options
Two battery pack options are available: 34.5 kWh and 39.4 kWh. The EC Pro variant comes solely with the smaller battery, offering a claimed range of 375 km. The EL Pro, on the other hand, can be paired with either battery pack, with the larger 39.4 kWh option delivering an impressive 456 km range. Both variants share the same electric motor, churning out 147.5 bhp and 310 Nm of torque, propelling the SUV from 0 to 100 kmph in 8.3 seconds and reaching a top speed of 150 kmph.
Competitive Pricing
Mahindra has priced the XUV400 Pro competitively, starting at Rs 15.49 lakh for the base EC Pro variant and reaching Rs 17.49 lakh for the fully loaded EL Pro trim. This directly challenges the Tata Nexon EV’s top trim, priced at Rs 19.94 lakh (ex-showroom), making it a more attractive proposition for tech-savvy EV buyers.

Verdict
With its upgraded cabin, cutting-edge features, and competitive pricing, the Mahindra XUV400 Pro sheds its outdated image and emerges as a compelling choice in the electric SUV segment. It directly targets the Tata Nexon EV, offering a similar range but with a more modern and feature-rich package. Whether it can dethrone the Nexon from its top spot remains to be seen, but the XUV400 Pro is undoubtedly a significant step forward for Mahindra in the electric vehicle space.
The XUV400 Pro retains the familiar three drive modes: Fun (Eco), Fast (Normal), and Fearless (Sport). Fun acts as the default setting, providing a linear power delivery that’s surprisingly adequate for most situations. You might crave some extra punch, but switching to Fearless mode unleashes the beast within. Here, the motor’s full potential shines, offering exhilarating acceleration and a relentless pull that propels you to a thrilling 160 kph top speed (compared to Fun mode’s restricted 90 kph).
Visually, the only exterior update is the subtle “EV” badge on the boot.
Steering weight adapts to the chosen mode, feeling lightest in Fun and heaviest in Fearless. However, feedback is virtually absent in both settings. While regeneration can’t be adjusted independently, “L” mode intensifies its effect, allowing the car to come to a complete stop using engine braking alone.
The XUV400 Pro prioritizes comfort with its soft and supple suspension setup at low speeds. However, this comfort comes at the cost of bounciness at higher speeds. Additionally, the suspension noise can be quite intrusive, especially when tackling potholes.
