Nissan Upcoming SUV to Rival Creta

Nissan C-Segment SUV

I still remember when Nissan had the Terrano on Indian roads—a rugged, no-nonsense SUV that just couldn’t quite make a lasting impact. But now, Nissan is gearing up for something big, and I can’t help but be excited. Their new C-segment SUV, set to launch in FY2026, is designed to take on the heavyweights—the Hyundai Creta, Skoda Kushaq, Honda Elevate, and Maruti Grand Vitara.

This new SUV will share its DNA with the upcoming Renault Duster, both built on the CMF-B platform. It’s not just another rebadged model, though. Nissan has ensured that its version carries its own identity. In fact, they say it’s drawing inspiration from the mighty Nissan Patrol, and I can already imagine the muscular stance it’ll have.

From the teaser images, it’s clear that while the overall silhouette remains similar to the Duster, Nissan has added its own flair. The front grille, with those bold chrome accents and L-shaped LED DRLs, immediately sets it apart. There are prominent creases on the bonnet, a rugged bumper with silver cladding, and distinct alloy wheels that give it a personality of its own.

Inside, the cabin is expected to be a modern tech-laden space. While the overall layout will be familiar to the Duster, Nissan plans to make a few tweaks. A 10.1-inch touchscreen infotainment system, a 7-inch digital instrument cluster, a 360-degree camera, and features like automatic climate control and rear AC vents should make it feel premium. And while international models of the Duster get ADAS, it’s still unclear if this safety tech will make its way to the India-spec version.

Under the hood, Nissan has already confirmed that this will be a petrol-only offering. A 1.3-litre turbo-petrol engine producing 154hp and 250Nm will power this beast, paired with a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic. However, Nissan hasn’t yet disclosed if a manual variant or an AWD option will be available. I’m keeping my fingers crossed for both.

Now, there’s one big question—what will Nissan call it? The Terrano name seems to be off the table, which makes sense since it didn’t quite make waves in the past. So, a fresh identity might just be what Nissan needs to make a strong comeback in this segment.

And it doesn’t stop here. Nissan has already hinted at a 7-seater version of this SUV, which is expected to arrive by the end of FY2026. It looks like they’re serious about making a mark in the Indian market this time.

As the launch gets closer, we’ll know more. But one thing’s for sure—Hyundai Creta and its rivals should be ready for some serious competition. Nissan is back in the game, and I can’t wait to see how this unfolds.
